Things have been slow around here lately. As always, if you have anything interesting you'd like to share, feel free to email me at rootofshe at gmail dot com.

Here's a fresh email courtesy of BRAT, the webmaster at depechemode.com.

----------------

Suffer no Longer
"Suffer Well", the third single from "Playing The Angel", and the very first single written by Dave, is out this week on CD and DVD single! Release dates for the other UK formats are on the site (see link). For those of you in the US, iTunes has the tracks available (purchase links are available via the above link). There will be no commercial CD single released in the US.

Robert Smith vs Anton Corbijn?
We are getting preliminary reports that Robert Smith (lead singer of The Cure) is looking to stop further production of the album "Playing The Angel". It is said, through sources, that Robert has a concern that the "Mister Feathers" character that Anton Corbijn created for the "Playing The Angel" cover bears more than a passing resemblance to the cover for The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry" single.

We will provide further information on the impending injunction as soon as it is available.

New tour date info
Date added: second Mexico City (on sale today - March 30th!). Date cancelled: El Paso.

Suffer Well: Simlish
"The Sims 2 - Open For Business", the new expansion pack for the popular "Sims" game, is out now. The game features a special full-length version of "Suffer Well", sung by Dave entirely in the language of the game (Simlish)! To promote the game, EA Games created a special music video for "Suffer Well", using an edited music soundtrack. You must check this out!

Pre-show Music
Due to an extremely high demand, we have put the full track listing of the pre-show concert music. For those of you who wondered what the music was before DM hit the stage, here is your answer. The music was mixed by Mr. Gore.

Remasters: Date Change
Things must change, including sound quality! Coming very soon are the first three titles in the upcoming full studio album reissue series! Not only are the albums remastered, but they include 5.1 surround mixes! Details are available on the micro-site, and if you check the main News page, you'll get a glimpse of who was involved in the remastering.

Update! The date for the UK issues has been pushed back to April 3rd. This date, as well as the US release date, are still subject to change.

Suffer Well: Behind the Suffering
Check out the final batch of images (for a total of over 100) from the "Suffer Well" video shoot. Still coming shortly will be a special "Making Of The Video" featurette!

Dave Gahan Interview

Q: Does your passion for painting still persist? Have you had a chance
to do some more painting recently?

Yeah, I have painted a lot during the last few years. There are
paintings all around my house. I paint on the walls, I paint on the
floor, I paint on pieces of cardboard. I had a lot of my paintings
stolen from my house. I've been invited to do an exhibition of paintings
in New York, in a gallery there, so it's something I might do in the
future.

Teaser Trailer

I've been coasting some rough waters lately, so my updates have been a little less frequent. My apologies. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) news has been scarce.

At any rate, though there is plenty of time to organize it, I'm curious as to who is going to the DC show. I'd like to try to organize a meet-up like last time. Feel free to leave comments!

Official Live Depeche Mode DVD Material Leak

Official Live Depeche Mode DVD Material Leak
[Source: Side-Line, March 6th, 2006]

It seems that Mute Records keep on having problems with their security as more and more releases are getting leaked online way before the official street dates. Available now on several servers in Germany are cuts taken from official Mute live videos shot in Chicago during the band's current tour.

In a reaction the webmaster of the official Depeche mode site said that the leaks are "a shining example of Mute's security in action". Let us remind you that the band's single and video of "Precious" leaked everywhere when the website of QFilm, the company producing the video, presumably by accident, put up the video on what was supposed to be a secure portion of their website. The page turned out to be available for everyone. After a witch-hunt in which even a Polish fan was used as a scapegoat in a leading role, all became rather quiet around the affair. But with more material getting available it remains to be seen if measures will be taken.

Oh, and for the record, at least 4 soundboard tracks from the 1990 Violation tour have now surfaced. Side-Line reported already about these recordings two years ago, something which at that time was rejected as being untrue...

B-side Depeche Mode Tribute

[Source: Side-Line, March 3rd, 2006]

Cryonica Music are starting the process of gathering interested bands to choose and submit a track for a new Depeche Mode tribute compilation. There are many Depeche Mode tribute compilations out at the moment, but there are none dedicated to arguably some the best Depeche Mode tracks written, the B-sides. If you are interested in contributing a track to this compilation, please contact Cryonica as soon as possible telling which song you would like to cover. Deadline will be Summer 2006.

Songs expected to be included are: "Newborn", "Fools", "In Your Memory", "(Set Me Free) Remotivate Me", "Dangerous", "Sea Of Sin", "Happiest Girl", "My Joy", "Ice Machine", "Free", "But Not Tonight", "Flexible", "Now This Is Fun", "Work Hard", "Fly On The Windscreen" and many more.

DM Sims

The signature sound of legendary alternative rock band Depeche Mode has been translated to The Sims native Simlish language for the first time ever. 'Suffer Well,' a track from Depeche Mode's critically acclaimed album 'Playing the Angel,' has been recorded in Simlish and will be made available to fans of music and PC games through The Sims™ 2 Open for Business.

Depeche Mode's lead singer, David Gahan, said, "Depeche Mode has always been open to new ways of sharing our music, but re-recording a Simlish-language version of 'Suffer Well' just sounded completely bizarre. Of course, that's why couldn't resist doing it."

You can listen to part of the Simlish version in this exclusive new video. It all begins with a robot who falls in love with his creator...

Bonus Tracks Remastered DM Albums

[Source: Side-Line, March 1st, 2006]

As announced exclusively by Side-Line already last year (and as usually denied by the official website and the label at that time), Mute/EMI are to release the entire back catalogue of Depeche Mode as SACD including limited editions holding a DVD as well.

The first three releases to hit the shop shelves are "Speak & Spell", "Music For The Masses" and "Violator". These albums are presented as single CD remastered versions alongside a double disc edition containing a Hybrid Super Audio CD and a newly remixed 5.1 mix of the albums themselves. The DVD discs are further enhanced with extra bonus tracks/remixes and 30+ minute documentaries featuring exclusive live and TV appearances.

The additional bonus tracks for "Violator" are the b-sides "Dangerous", "Memphisto", "Sibeling", "Kaleid", "Happiest Girl (Jack Mix)", "Sea Of Sin (Tonal Mix)" and the 33 minutes documentary "Depeche Mode 89 - 91 (If You Wanna Use Guitars, Use Guitars)."

The limited edition of "Music For The Masses" holds the additional bonus tracks "Agent Orange", "Pleasure, Little Treasure", "Route 66", "Stjarna", "Sonata No.14 in C#m (Moonlight Sonata)", "Never Let Me Down Again (Aggro Mix)", "To Have And to Hold (Spanish Taster)", "Pleasure, Little Treasure (Glitter Mix)" and the 36 minutes documentary "Depeche Mode 87 - 88 (Sometimes You Do Need Some New Jokes)."

Finally "Speak & Spell" holds the following additional bonus tracks on its limited edition: "Ice Machine", "Shout", "Any Second Now", "Just Can't Get Enough (Schizo Mix)" and the 27 minutes documentary "Depeche Mode 80 - 81 (Do We Really Have To Give Up Our Day Jobs?)." All these fine re-releases will be out on March 27th.
